There are many technically "smart" people in the world. So why do so many technology projects end up short of their intended goal or fail altogether? The answer is people and process.
It's All About People & Processes
Every technology project involves people in some way to deliver
the end product. But, people are individuals and no two will approach
a problem or a project the same way. This makes life interesting,
but in the technology business, it also makes it difficult to provide
repeatable results.
We believe that to get repeatable results, technology providers
need to have defined processes. Providing this direction and a defined
framework for people to work is the only way we can ensure repeatable
successes without stifling individual innovation.
Gold Standards
ADNET has spent more than 14 years developing and refining its
gold standards. To ensure quality results in all of our projects,
we have incorporated our standards into a 4 step "success
methodology " called the ADNET Standards And Processes or
ASAP Methodology.
What are ADNET's gold standards? These are standards that we developed
and documented to ensure consistency and the best outcome for any
given project.
How Were They Developed?
How have we developed our standard processes? Consider what would
happen if you sat 10 engineers in front of their own computers, and
asked them to install Windows 2003 Server. By monitoring their process
and reviewing their machine when they were completed, we could expect
to find 10 different ways to install Windows Server 2003. There is
a lot we learn from these types of experiments:
- Each engineer may have something that was done better
than the rest.
- Most likely there is not one machine that has all of
the "best" installation practices.
- And, bottom line, If we sent these 10 engineers
to 10 client sites without a defined process, all
the installations would be different.
In the example above, we document all of the best practices from the 10 installations to create the gold standard - the ADNET script for installing Windows 2003 server. With this process in hand, all 10 engineers can now go into the field to 10 different client sites to install Windows 2003 Server and the installations will be performed consistently.
Making Sure It Happens
However, people are people and having gold standards alone will not ensure success and consistency. Beyond individual projects, there needs to be an overarching approach and this is why ADNET developed the ASAP methodology. Our methodology ensures that everyone follows a proven project management strategy, by outlining that strategy and then reviewing and auditing the results. In a nutshell, nothing is left to chance.
